Review: Whataburger Patty Melt

I have never been a huge fan of Patty Melts. They are a bit too greasy for me. Ironic that I am complaining about grease when eating a cheeseburger but I guess I like my grease between two buns, not all over them. That being said, I have had the Whataburger Patty Melt my fair share of times. It is one of their standard items they revolve through so I thought it would be good to review it!

There are a few things that MUST be required for a good Patty Melt.

1. Thick Texas Toast
2. Golden brown grilled onions
3. Melty smothering cheese
4. Greasy thick burgers

If a Patty Melt has all of these things then it has passed my test on what a good Patty Melt requires. Does The Whataburger Patty Melt pass the test?

Close, but not completely. I will start of with the Texas Toast. Whataburger has good Texas Toast by itself, but as a bun of a huge burger like this it kind of fails. The edges are nice and thick but the center gets so mashed up it gets messy. The meat starts to fall through and the onions make it kind of soggy. Sonic does a better job having thicker toast. The onions on mine were perfect. They were cooked enough to where they have that golden brown flavor but they were not overcooked. I could see this being something that varies between orders though. The cheese was melty for sure but I think they could of used another slice or some more pungent cheese like cheddar or pepper-jack! The burger was thick and flavorful like any normal Whataburger! It had sauce on it to but you can barley even notice it!

Rating 3/5 "It's just Meh"

For a fast food Patty Melt it was decent but it did not meet all my requirements! It probably does not help I do not like Patty Melts. If you do, give it a try. If you are like me then you are better of just passing on this one.

Review: Wendy's 1/4 lbs. Single, Jr. Cheeseburger Deluxe, Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap

Wendy's, to me, always seemed like the poor adopted little brother of McDonald's and Burger King. I mean they did not have a niche like Sonic or Whataburger does, they do not offer breakfast everywhere, and they have had a simple menu up to a few years ago. That all has really started to change, for better or for worse. They are trying to change their imagine into the "healthy alternative" of fast food places. They have been pushing Salads, their wide options of sides to their combos, and they "all natural" products. Well  personally I have always liked Wendy's. I think they have some of the best burgers in the fast food world. The changes they have been going through the past few years with adding more salads and making "all natural" fries have both been positive to me. They also still have a decent value menu (it was great until they just took off half of it), which gets new things on it every now and again. Well to go with their "all natural" image they recently just changed their burgers to be "more fresh". They also added two new things to their 99 cent menu, which it needed after loosing about four things.

I will go ahead and start with the 1/4 lbs. Classic Single (with Cheese)

I am going to make these easy. The burger as a whole did not seem that different. They toppings seemed pretty much the same. That is a positive when it comes to Wendy's because they have always done a great job having fresh and quality toppings. The bun also seems like the same as before. The only big changes I noticed was the beef and the cheese. The beef itself was definitely thicker. Now was it Juicier? meh not really. I mean it IS fast food so it is not like they can make it Medium Rare. I guess for a fast food burger it definitely had more moisture compared to a BK or McDonald's burger. It also had the same great flavor they have always had. They cheese was much better as well. A thicker slice which had much for flavor and density to it. It tasted like a good slice of real cheese, not processed crap cheese.

Overall I would say it is an improvement to before but the improvements are so minuscule I cannot say it is something you need to rush out and try. The average person probably would not even notice, which is probably along the lines of what they want. Still one of the best standard burgers in the fast food world.

Now for the 99 cent Cheeseburger Deluxe

I actually really enjoyed this one. The beef patty was super tiny but for 99 cents I cannot say I am surprised. Where this value burger separates itself is the toppings. The vegetables are the same quality they put on their 1/4 lbs. Single and roughly the same amount! For a value burger, it is definitely top of the line.

What about the Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap?

Can you say disappointment? I do not have much good to say about this one except it was 99 cents. They chicken is just a crappy chicken patty from their 99 cent sandwich cut in two. It was not really crispy and it was so processed it was kind of hard to put down. Their was not even close to enough lettuce on this. Unfortunately they couldn't put too much more on it because the tortilla was so small and flimsy. The Caesar dressing was not horrible but I can see them putting WAY too much on and completely making it inedible.

The only reason this gets any points is price. That's all it has going for it.

Rating: 2/5 "It's Not Worth it"

Anyways that is all for today! Whataburger and Taco Bell coming up next week!

CORONA-RITA!!

Drink Review!!!

This is going to be a real quick one. I had a Corona-rita for the first time a few weeks ago and wow that is good. It is simply a Margarita with a corona shoved into it. What this does is waters down the sweetness of the margarita with the refreshingness of the beer. I would drink one of these again in a heartbeat. I saw one of these when I waited tables and have wanted to try one. This was one of the first drinks I wanted to get when I turned 21. I got mine at Fuzzy's, a local fish taco place here in Fort Worth. They are a big chain now but they are still pretty good about being "local". The only downside is I had to pay for both the corona and the margarita. I need to find a place that I can just buy one of these as is. Please if anyone knows of one let me know!

Rating 5/5 "It's the Bee's Knees"

One of the best and simplest adult drinks I have had. I will warn, you do not look very masculine or cool when you drink this. Just so everyone is clear.

Horrible Bosses Review

Guess who's back!!?! For good this time hopefully. I once again am sorry for the month of very few updates. It was a crazy month, I was caught up in my internship. That is pretty much over now though so I can relax and catch up. I thought I would revive myself with a review of one of my favorite comedies I have seen in a LONG time, Horrible Bosses.

Horrible Bosses
The movie centers around three close friends, who all have horrible bosses (who woulda guessed). Each of these three characters have different views on their jobs and each of their bosses are ass-wholes for different reasons. Jason Bateman's character is part of the corporate world and has been working for an insane dictator of a boss for years in order to move up the ladder. He has not gone anywhere on this ladder for a while. Jason Sudeikis plays a guy who works at a chemical company who LOVES his job and his boss. He and his boss are the best of friends and have an almost father-son relationship. That is until his boss's son starts running the show. Colin Farrell does a FANTASTIC job playing a coked out lunatic who is so self centered he is willing to drive his fathers company into the ground for some drugs. Finally you have Charlie Day's character, who is an innocent and sweet guy. He is a dental assistant who loves his fiancĂ©e beyond anything in the entire world. Unfortunately for him, his boss (played by a very hot Jennifer Aniston) is a sex crazed freak who will not give up on having sex with Day's character.

The movie unravels and eventually all of these characters decide they want to kill their bosses. This whole sequence of events plays out to be absolutely hilarious. I do not recall a scene in this movie where I did not have at least a slight chuckle going on. The chemistry between the three main roles is perfect. I have heard people compare them to modern day three stooges and I definitely could see that. They are all bumbling idiots who have no idea what they are doing but that is what makes it so damn funny. Their bosses all do a great job of being hatable but in such an absurd way that makes it stay humorous. The movie just mixed a great story with really funny characters to create a very entertaining movie. They make things you have seen in other comedies much more humorous (like dropping a LARGE amount of cocaine in someone's face). When the ending comes, it never feels like it was forced to happen or that is was abrupt. It felt very natural.

I do have a few gripes about this movie though. For starters, there was not enough Colin Farrell. He his priceless but only has a few scenes. It might have made him seem too over-the-top if they showed more of him though so it might be for the best. Jennifer Aniston's character also kind of disappears in the middle of the film but it does not ruin the story. I did not really even notice until the end.

Rating 4/5 "It's Just Swell"

For a summer comedy it did a great job of being consistently funny throughout the whole film. A few high point include Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Aniston being half naked, and some great quotable lines (Gimme that dong Dale, I'd like to bend her over a barrel and show her the fifty states). If you want something a little lighter after seeing Harry Potter then definitely go check this one out.

Tell next time folks! (it wont be a month, I promise)

TIMPANO!!!!

First, I apologize again for another long break. Only one more week and I will get back to doing this twice a week!

In the mean time I am going to grace everyone with one of the best food creations/ideas ever. I actually found this creation/idea first at Epic Portions and then later over at Food In My Beard. Basically it is a giant cluster of italian food baked in some puffed pastry. I gained like 10 pound the week I made this but I would say that is worth it. Anyways here are some pictures of the process. I recommend everyone make it sometime. I would also say do not make it and try to eat it alone.

Cookin the meatballs (made with breakfast sausage) and chicken parm

Went with mostly store bought EVERYTHING. Sorry, I am lazy

Puffed Pastry, Harder to roll out then I expected

Fettucini Alfredo

Pepperonis!! NOm nom

Sgetti and Meatbawls

Cheese Sticks = GOLD

Chicken Parm

Provolone

ALL BAKED

Looks good

OH YEAH..... = Heart-attack

Granted It is supposed to be flipped over and cut but I did not feel like doing that. I just kept it in the pan and it was still good. Anyways give it a shot sometime, it is a fun thing to make and is mighty tasty.
